In Chinese culture, the purpose of this traditional custom of gifting a Si Dian Jin wedding jewellery set is twofold.
Firstly, it serves as a way to welcome the new daughter-in-law to her new family. The mother-in-law will present this bridal set to her daughter-in-law before their wedding day during the Guo Da Li (过大礼) ceremony.
Secondly, this wedding gift is also an offering of goodwill to the wife’s family for raising such an amazing woman who will now become a wife.
The practice of gifting Si Dian Jin pieces varies amongst dialects. Teochew families will typically gift a 4-piece wedding jewellery set containing a necklace, ring, pair of bangles, and earrings.
Meanwhile, Hokkien and Cantonese families will give one to two pieces. A pair of bangles are the most common jewellery piece to be given.
At SK Jewellery, we also offer a wide range of bridal jewellery other than Si Dian Jin, such as engagement rings and wedding bands.
Traditionally, 24K gold (also known as 999 gold) is the purest form of gold used in Si Dian Jin bridal jewellery making. Due to its purity, 999 gold will not easily tarnish or discolour over time so you can be sure that your Si Dian Jin set will remain as beautiful as the day you bought it.
916 gold is also equally popular due to its greater durability and affordable price tag.
