Necklaces are a type of jewellery worn around the neck, often featuring a non-detachable pendant suspended from a delicate chain.. Chains, on the other hand, are a specific type of necklace that consists solely of interconnected metal links, without any additional embellishments. While they can be worn with a pendant, chains are also frequently worn alone as a statement piece, showcasing their unique design and craftsmanship.
When it comes to chains, there are many types to choose from. Here are some types of chains we have available:
Choosing the right chain length for your gold chain necklace depends on your personal preference and body type. A good starting point is to measure your neck circumference with a soft measuring tape and add 5 to 10 cm to determine your minimum recommended chain length. For men, a common chain length is between 50 to 55 cm, which falls at the collarbone. For women, a popular length is between 40 to 45 cm, resting just above the neckline. However, these are just guidelines, and you should choose a chain length that you feel comfortable and confident wearing.
The strength of the chain depends on three things: type of link, thickness of the chain, and whether the links are independently soldered or not.
Different chains require different clasps based on their material and weight. For our 999 gold chains, which tend to be heavier in design due to the softness of the metal, we use S-hooks. These clasps are robust enough to securely hold the chain’s end hoops in place. For our 10K, 14K, 18K, and 916 gold chains, we offer a variety of clasps, including S-hooks, lobster claws, and spring rings. The choice of clasp depends on the specific design and weight of the chain, with heavier chains requiring larger clasps for optimal security.
To ensure the longevity of your gold chain, we recommend removing it before sleeping or showering. The softness of 999 and 916 gold makes them susceptible to damage during sleep, especially for chains with intricate designs. While 18K, 14K, and 10K gold chains are generally durable, extra care should be taken due to their higher gold content and softer nature. Exposure to water, soaps, and oils can also dull the chain’s lustre and compromise its integrity, regardless of the gold purity. Please refer to our gold jewellery guide for detailed care instructions.
SK Jewellery offers a fuss free exchange period of 7 days. However, repairs may not be possible if the chain is broken or damaged due to wear and tear. In such cases, we may offer a trade-in option, particularly for 999 or 916 gold chains due to their delicate nature. We recommend bringing your chain to one of our retail stores for assessment and advice regarding repairs or trade-ins. For more information, you can refer to our exchanges and refunds policy.
